So, for the modicum sum of 300,000 lire (back then the Euro was still in the dreams of some European functionaries) I became the proud owner of a Casio CZ-1000. I spent many nights programming new sounds with it! I still have a notebook full of hand-written patches. The Casio CZ-1 was the top of the Casio’s CZ synthesizer line. The CZ series were a family of low-cost phase distortion synthesizers produced by Casio mid-1980s. The CZ-1 synthesizer offered the classic CZ sound, but also featured stored splits and layers, velocity and aftertouch sensitivity.
is an app for iPhone and iPad made by yours truly for editing patches on your CZ-1, CZ-101, CZ-1000, CZ-3000, or CZ-5000. Costs about $30. Added support for the CZ-230s is forthcoming.
is another app by me, for iPad only, that includes all the CZ editors as well as editors for lots of other synths. It's free to try out. is also made by me, but this one is open source (and free), and works on Windows and OS X, with Max.
is both a CZ emulator (i.e. A software synth) as well as a CZ patch editor, made by Oli Larkin. It supports all CZ synthesizers, and costs about $100. is a patch librarian and editor that runs on Windows, OS X, and Linux. A separate program is needed to transmit the patches it creates. Full version costs $24. And older is available made by Alfonso Hermida.
I haven't tried it out.Patches. offers a large and growing number of patches for CZ synthesizers. Several sets are free for download, and the rest are sold in sets of 64 for $15 each. Each set has a different theme!. is a set of 20 custom patches that work with most of the CZ synthesizer family.
